IWD Goals 2006/2007

Board approves 2006-2007 District Goals - April 17, 2006

These goals are all-important for accomplishing the mission of the Idyllwild Water District and should be completed over the next year. They are not listed in any particular order.

•       Increase water supply through exploration and well rehabilitation.
Our current capacity, with
Foster Lake full and high static well levels, is approx. 525 gpm.  A minimum of 300 gpm must be available in a 7-year drought to assure adequate residential and commercial supply while also maintaining adequate fire protection; this equates to a 650 gpm wet-year capacity.

1. Continue water exploration with a goal of two test wells with the development of one production well in the next year.

                2.  Evaluate current wells to identify candidates for increasing production with rehabilitation.

                3.  Develop program for well rehabilitation.

•       Water system flushing.

                1.  Develop a system flushing program identifying schedules for each segment of the system; complete system flushing needs to be done every three years on a regularly scheduled basis.
2.  Install 24 automatic flushing units to eliminate manpower for our on-going monthly dead-end water main flushing program.

•       Earthquake preparation.
1. Develop program to implement seismic protection throughout system.

•       Employee compensation parity.
1. Perform compensation parity study.
2. Update compensation policies (with particular attention to incentives).

•       New septic system program and training.

New septic system technology will soon be mandated by the state.  IWD must prepare now to be ready to accept the challenges of the new technology.
1. Prepare plan for implementing new septic system program.
2. Plan and execute personnel training to implement program.

•       Water Reclamation.
IWD needs to be prepared to accept a loan/grant for developing a wastewater reclamation program.
1. Develop study and pilot plans to prepare a response and to complete the loan/grant process.
2. Develop and coordinate acceptable approach with Health Department.

“Below the line”

•       Safety plan.  Develop and implement employee safety plan and program.

•       Fire Prevention, Protection and Suppression Plan.  Develop and implement IWD program to protect system assets from fire loss; to include training, extinguishers, fire retardant walls and paint, sprinklers, Halon, etc.
